Sara Reid Fairchild

Sara Reid Fairchild, 70, of Alexandria passed away on Aug. 10, 2012 at
Matthews Memorial Nursing Care after several years of declining health.
Sara was born on Dec. 9, 1941 in Catawba County to the late Harrison Fuller and Elizabeth Bowman Reid.
She is survived by a son, William H. Fairchild and
wife, Donna of Leesville; four siblings, George H. Reid and wife, Barbara of Houston, Stuart L. Reid and Jane B. Reid of Hickory, N.C., Elizabeth R. Keenan of Houston, and Joan R. Propst and husband, Edwin of Hickory, N.C.; and a special loving
friend of Sara’s, Sylvia Shull of Hickory, N.C.
She was a graduate of St. Stephens High School and Appalachian State University. She began her teaching career in Mt. Airy and Hickory, N.C. and retired from Vernon Parish School System in
Leesville. During her early years of teaching in Mt. Airy, she was Secretary-Treasurer of the Classroom Teachers Association in Surry County N.C.E.A. While continuing her teaching career in Louisiana, Sara became the Reading Specialist Coordinator
for Vernon Elementary School. Sara spent many wonderful years in the classroom and found great joy in teaching.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Aug. 14 at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel ini Hickory, N.C., with Rev. Don Ingle
officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 and also an hour prior to services on Aug. 14, both at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff of Christus Hospice and Matthews Memorial Nursing Care for the loving care that was extended to Sara.
