Avis Smith Spurgeon

Avis Smith Spurgeon, born on Aug. 6, 1914, went to her heavenly home on May
17, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Barney and Lizzie Burns; husbands, Grover Smith and Edward Spurgeon; sons, Olen Smith and Larry Smith; grandchildren, Randy Linscomb and Tina Windham; brothers, Wilburn Burns and B.M.
Burns; and sisters, Lena White, Dellie Carlock and Mae Roberts.
Avis is survived by her daughters, Mayva Jean Linscomb and husband Wilbert, of Orange, Texas, Dorothy Spurgeon of Hicks, and Gwendolyn Vaught and husband Bobby of Greenbrier,
Ark; her son, Dale Smith and wife Patty of Waxahatchie, Texas; daughters-in-law, Lory Smith of Red Oak, Texas and Alice Smith of Hicks; 25 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Lillianvee Bass of the
Calcasieu Community.
Pallbearers will include David Coates, Roger Linscomb, Chad Smith, Travis Smith, Marcus Smith and Gordan Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will include Darrell Coates, Jeff Coates, Johnny Spurgeon, Brian Smith,
Jeffrey Smith, Jarred Smith and Steve Smith.
Avis was a loving mother to six wonderful children. She instilled her religious beliefs in her children, grandchildren and everyone who came in contact with her. She was a long time member of
Flactor Baptist Church and retired from the Civil Service Department of Fort Polk. Avis will be missed by many and her
memories will be cherished forever. The family would like to say a special thank you to Jeff Johnson and the staff at
The Woodlands Nursing Facility, and Harbor Hospice, especially Tracie and Sharane.
Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. on May 20, 2012 at Flactor Baptist Church in Hicks. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on May 21, 2012 at Flactor Baptist
Church in Hicks. Bro. Haymon will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Flactor Cemetery in Hicks, under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville.
