Donis “Granny” Gordy, 103, of Cody, Wyo., died peacefully on April 11, 2012
at Powell Valley Care Center in Powell, Wyo. Gordy was born in Brookhaven, Miss. but lived in Simpson and Vernon Parish for a significant portion of her life.
She is survived by her daughters, Edyth Nell Murry, of Westlake; Janis Holder,
of Cody, Wyo. and Norita Helton, of Slagle; brother, Roy Berry, of Texas; 10 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Gordy; brothers, Harold Berry and
J.M. Berry; and sisters, Vivian Waskom, Bertress Stewart and Demple Lawrence.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on April 21 at Simpson Baptist Church, with a memorial service to be held at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the
Welcome Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
