Henry Owens “Sottie” Harvey, 77, of Evans passed from this life on March 17, 2012 in Lake Charles.
Sottie was born on Oct. 7, 1934, to Russell and Gertrude Owens Harvey in DeRidder. He grew up in the Knight Community, the fifth
of six children. He was a graduate of Evans High School with a countless number of friends. He was drafted into the Army of the United States with the 4th Armored Division, Fort Hood, Texas, April 25, 1957. Sottie married Wesley Ann LaFleur on July
16, 1957. He continued serving in the Army until April 14, 1959. He was called back to active duty on Oct. 26, 1961 and was honorably discharged on May 31, 1963. Sottie drove a school bus for 35 years hauling children to and from Evans High School.
Even if the bus was broke down or there were storms or floods, he always made sure you had a ride to school.
Sottie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wesley Ann “Papoose” Harvey of Evans; sons, John Russell “Kenny” Harvey, James Patrick
Harvey and wife Nikki, and Michael Owens Harvey and wife Rocky, all of Evans; daughter, Leslie Ann Choat and husband Kevin of Rosepine; brother, John Harvey and wife Patricia and sister-in-law, Joyce Harvey, all of Evans; grandchildren, Mavrick Cole
Harvey Sr., Chase Breaux Harvey, Elizabeth Marie Froemming, James Russell Froemming, Katie Nichole Harvey and Harlie Ann Harvey; great-grandchild, Mavrick Cole Harvey Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Gertrude Harvey; brothers, Russell Harvey Jr., of Lake Charles and Daniel Harvey of Evans; and sisters, Mammie Loftin and Melonee Allardyce, also of Evans.
Sottie’s favorite quote
was, “never sweat the small stuff.” Everyone always asked, “What did Sottie think of that?” We can only wonder what Sottie would think of this. His words would be, “I’m gonna miss ya but, son, this ain’t no hill for a stepper.”
Visitation
