Funeral services for Roger G. Morris, 70, of Leesville will be held at 2
p.m. on Jan. 12, 2012, at First United Methodist Church in Leesville with Rev. Hawk Hamilton and Glen Henley officiating. Burial will follow in the Lewis Cemetery in DeRidder under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Jan. 11 at the church and then from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Jan. 12 at the church.
Roger, the son of Eldridge and June Morris, Sr. was born on Oct. 1, 1941. He passed away on Jan.
10, 2012 in Shreveport.
Roger graduated from DeRidder High School in 1960 and then attended LSU until he joined the U.S. Reserve Marine Corps where he served for six years. Roger owned and operated Morris Tire Service until 2003 and
currently was a broker for Morris Real Estate (Remax) in Leesville.
Mr. Morris served the city of Leesville as a past Councilman at Large and also as mayor for one term. He was very active in the community, as he was a past president of
the Leesville-Vernon Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Leesville Lions Club, lifetime member of the Louisiana Lions League for Crippled Children, former member of the Leesville Jaycees and past president for the Leonidas Polk Chapter,
Association of the U.S. Army. He also was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by parents.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margie Morris, of Leesville; brothers Eldridge “Junior” and
wife Diane Morris, and Jim and wife Patricia Morris, and sister Brenda and husband Delbert Hollis, all of DeRidder; his beloved pets Bambi and Katy; along with numerous nephews, nieces and extended family.
Memorial donations are to be made
to the First United Methodist Church or the Louisiana Lions Crippled Children Camp.
