Leslea J. Maattala, 65, of Leesville, passed away Saturday 30, July 2011 in
Dubuis Hospital in Lake Charles.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011 in First United Methodist Church, in DeRidder with Dr. Wayne Evans officiating.
Burial will be in Beauregard Memorial Cemetery, under
the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
Leslea was born in Brainerd, Minn. on April 16, 1946 to Lester and Gladys Peterson, now deceased. She graduated from Brainerd High School in 1964 and attended Brainerd Junior
College where she studied accounting for two years. She worked for the First National Bank of Brainerd for three years. She married Richard Maattala on March 12 1966. After a brief honeymoon she returned to Brainerd while her husband served a tour of
duty in Viet Nam. he then lived in Colorado, Germany, Maryland, Kentucky and Michigan. After her husband retired from the military, she moved to Rosepine and went to work for the Defense Commissary Agency at Ft. Polk.
She then moved to
Panama and worked for the U.S. Army Finance Center at Ft. Clayton, Panama Canal Zone. She returned to DeRidder and went to work again for the Defense Commissary Agency until she retired in 2007.
She was a member of the First United
Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Richard Maattala of Leesville; daughters, Kimberley Martin and husband, Dewayne of Leesville, Denis Torres of DeRidder, Jill Martin and husband, Durwin of Leesville and Amanda
Meeks and husband James (JR) of DeRidder; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder and from 9 a.m. until the service at the church
