Elder Perry H. Miers

Funeral services for Elder Perry H. Miers, 81, of Anacoco, will be held at
10 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville with Elder Bruce Ward and Elder Gerald Read officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 25, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, under the
direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held from 2 -8 p.m., Friday, June 24 and from 8 a.m. until time of service on Saturday, June 25, at the funeral home.
Perry, the son of Ben E. and Hazel
Evans Miers, was born on February 8, 1930, in Rattan. He passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, in Leesville. He graduated from Pisgah High School in 1947 and from NSU in 1957. He served in the Air Force for four years. Mr. Miers worked for 31
years for E.R. Squibb Pharmaceutical in Monroe. After retiring in 1992, he moved to Anacoco in 1994, where he became President of Anacoco Water System Board of Directors as well as its licensed water operator and served them for 16 years until he
suffered a bad fall and was injured in December 2008. He has resided at The Woodlands Nursing Home in Leesville since that time. Mr. Miers was ordained as an Elder into Primitive Baptist Church in 1968 and served churches in Monroe, Oak Grove,
Ringgold and Rosepine for more than 40 years. He was a member, as well as honorary pastor, at Shiloh Baptist Church in Rosepine at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ben E. Miers; mother, Hazel Evans Miers;
infant daughter, Sonya Gail Miers; and brother, Sidney Sherman Miers.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, LaVerne Miers of Anacoco; sons, Gary Jerome Miers of Monroe, Benny Ray Miers and wife Patricia Ann of Willis, Texas, Sherman
Allen Miers and wife Teresa of Calhoun, and Glenn David Miers and wife Katie of Swartz; brother, Benny Rance Miers and wife Marie of Shreveport; stepchildren, Mickie Humphries of Tioga, Paul Humphries of Atlanta, Ga. and Ray Humphries of Acworth,
Ga.; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dale Miers, Truman Miers, Pat Miers, Ottis Ray Goins, Marion Van Tassel and Ralph Causey.
