Gary L. Hawthorne

Gary L. Hawthorne, a native of Anacoco, passed away peacefully at his home
in Baton Rouge on Sunday, February 20 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 58 years old.
He graduated from Anacoco High School and earned his degree in social work from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. He
worked for DHH as a supervisor of procurement support and medical techinical services in Baton Rouge. He was a longtime member of the Broadmoor Methodist Church and loved singing in the Chancel Choir.
He was a founding member of the
Louisiana Lions Camp for Crippled Children Alumni Association. Gary loved life, and he was dearly loved by his family members and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marguerite W. Hawthorne and a nephew James
Stanley. He is survived by his father, James C. Hawthorne and his sister Jackie H. Martin, both from Anacoco; his brother, James C. Hawthorne, Jr. and wife Carol of Baton Rouge; nieces and nephews, Joe Riley and wife, Jennifer from Lamarque, Texas;
Chad Martin and wife, Allison from Corpus Christi, Texas; Jaime Hawthorne from Atlanta, Ga; Mandy Serignet and husband, Damon; Todd Martin and wife Elizabeth of Baton Rouge and a host of loving grandnieces, grandnephews and numerous co-workers and
friends.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, at Anacoco Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alumni Association of the Louisiana Lions Club Crippled Children’s Camp, Leesville or
hospice of Baton Rouge.
