Vernon (Verna) Jones passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on
Friday February 18 at the amazing age of 103. Verna was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was known amongst her family and friends for her fiery red hair and her love of gardening, dancing and
animals. She will forever be remembered for making a mean banana pudding, her absolute adoration of watching professional wrestling and for her ability to win at dominoes, sometimes by any means necessary.
Verna was born on February 3,
1908, and later moved to DeRidder where she lived for over 40 years. While in DeRidder she attended Pine Ridge Baptist Church. She was a life-long Christian woman, and we know she took comfort knowing she was going home to be with Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her son, Forrest Head.
She is survived by her husband Frank Jones; three daughters, Judy and Danny Smith of DeRidder, Syble and Myron Revard of Aurora, Col. and Eunice and Robert Dickinson of Shreveport;
and four sons, Jerrell Head of Carthage, Texas; Grant and Sally Head, E.R. and Margaret Head, and Andy and Vera Head, all of Shreveport. She also will be missed by 18 grandchildren, Paul Warner, Doug Warner, Sonya Hidalgo, Matt Warner, Mark Head,
Michael Head, Robin Burgess, Sherrie Gastelum, Cathy Howard, Gary Head, Donna Martin, David Head, Nancy Kiyokawa, Pam Martinez, Sandy Brusiloff, Jerrell Wayne Head, Steven Head, and Barbara Poland; 38 great grandchildren; and four great-great
grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home in DeRidder, on Monday Feb. 21 from 5 to 9 p.m., and on Tuesday Feb. 22 from 10 to 11 a.m., with a graveside service following at Beauregard Cemetery under the direction of Hixson
Funeral Home of DeRidder.
