Alphia Kennie Gilcrease Bricker

Alphia Bricker, known to her many friends and family as “Penny” Bricker, a native of Flora, in Natchitoches Parish, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the age of 80. She attended Flora High School. She was an active member of the
Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3106 in Leesville, serving in numerous capacities, including president of the local chapter. She also was elected to serve as president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for
the State of Louisiana. As state president, she and her husband, Fred, traveled all over the United States representing and promoting Louisiana to the nation and serving many armed services related charities and hospitals. She also worked with many
local charities and organizations in Leesville. With her outgoing personality and caring nature, she could always be counted on to lend a helping hand when needed.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, James Fred
Bricker, her son, James Henry Bricker and her grandson, Jon Creighton Congemi. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Bricker Congemi Gilleece, and her granddaughter Kellen Congemi Macatee.
Service will be held at Hixson Funeral Home in
Leesville, Louisiana at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 8, 2011 with the Reverend Jimmie Evans III officiating and burial at Pine Hill Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2011.
