Robert Humphries

Robert “Bob” Humphries, 82, a resident of 255 Hardin Circle, died September 17, 2010. He was born in York, S.C., son of the late Guy and Cleo Martin Humphries. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Douglas
Humphries and his brother, Ben Humphries. After 26 years of service, he retired from the United States Army having served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was also a POW during the Korean War. He received several medals and honors including the
Purple Heart, Bronze Star and the Silver Star. He also retired from the Louisiana State School after 21 years of service and was a former school bus driver for the Louisiana state school system. Mr. Humphries was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church
in Kings Mountain. He loved old western movies, Elvis and loved to talk about the war. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who never met a stranger.
Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Helen Hannon Humphries,
Grover, N.C.; sons: Robert Humphries, North Carolina, Donnie Humphries, North Carolina, Ricky Randall and wife Diane, York, S.C.; daughters Teresa Thompson, Debbie Beason and husband David; son-in-law: Karl Thompson, Kings Mountain, N.C.; sisters:
Dot Thomas, Chester, S.C., Guynelle Flynn, Rock Hill, S.C. Mary Stewart, Sharon, S.C., Ruth Humphries, Clover, S.C., Faye Kimble, York, S.C.; grandchildren: Joshua Humphries, Joseph Humphries and wife Cassey, Heather Espinosa and husband Anthony,
Brandi Erwin and husband Michael, David Beason and wife Nisha, Dakota Humphries, Meagan Humphries, Matthew Humphries, Margaret Lanier, Kelly Wilson; Great-Grandchildren: Kaylie, Blake, Devin, Alyssa, Gracelyn, Destinee, Katelyn, Skyler, Chevy,
Kristian, Justin, Trey and a host of nieces; nephews and friends. The funeral service will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church, in Kings Mountain on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Michael Horne, officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to
8 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010 at the Harris Funeral Home, in Kings Mountain. Interment will be held at Mountain Rest Cemetery with full Military Honors, in Kings Mountain, N.C. Memorials will be at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1101 S. Battleground
