Vera Farris Self, 88, passed from this life on May 26, 2010 at her
residence in Hornbeck.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the 1st Baptist Church of Hornbeck with the Revs. Bill Hines and Jack Bell officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of
Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville, a dignity memorial provider. Visitation will begin on Thursday, May 27, 2010 from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. at the church and before the service on Friday.
Vera was born to Louis Farris and Hattie Alridge
Farris on December 20, 1921 in Hornbeck. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hornbeck and an Eastern Star member of the Orange Chapter 224. She worked as a dental assistant, federal civil service at Fort Polk until her retirement.
She is survived by one son, Danny Olen Self and wife Irene of Hornbeck.
Vera is preceded in death by her husband, Olen Self; parents, Louis and Hattie Farris; grandson, Michael Watson Self; stepson, Benny Self; stepdaughter, Betty
Gregory and her sisters, Faye Howard and Effie Widler.
Vera was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to all. Vera loved to travel, and she attended high school basketball games and many activities at her church. She will be dearly
