Funeral services for Mr. Bernice C. Peavy will be held on Monday, May 10, 2010 at 2 p.m. in the Canaan Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Harper officiating. Burial will follow in the Canaan Cemetery with military honors under the direction
of Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will begin on Sunday, May 9, 2010 at 6 p.m. until service time at the church.
Mr. Peavy, “Rev.”, 78, passed away in Bossier City on Friday May 7, 2010. He was a life
resident of Vernon Parish and was a Ret. first sergeant, having served in the U.S. Army and also the Louisiana National Guard. He had worked at Fort Polk as a cook and dietary employee. He was a former member of Canaan Baptist Church, where he was a
deacon, considered to be associate pastor and would fill in for the pastor. In 2001, he moved to Bossier City to be closer to his daughter and joined the Bellaire Baptist Church where he served on the Veterans Honor Guard and the disaster relief
team.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Peavy; son, Gerry Peavy; granddaughter, Larisa Keen; and parents, Bill and Suzy Peavy.
Survivors are two daughters: Marrisa Tousha of Bossier City and Judy Cox of
Bridgeton, Mass.; one son: Randall Peavy of Leesville; one brother: Herbert Peavy of Burr Ferry; three sisters: Johnnie Koenck , Ruth Brumfield and Wanda Schewe, all of Leesville; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a host of nephews
and nieces.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to help with expenses.
