Funeral services for Jesse “Sonny” Smith, 88, of Leesville will be held Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville, with Rev. Dale Mortensen and Rev. Walter Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in the
Cooper Cemetery in Pickering. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 4, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Friday, May 5, from 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral
Home.
Jesse, the son of William Bartley and Minnie Evelyn Wilson Smith, was born on April 3, 1922 in Leesville. He passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in Pineville.
Mr. Smith lived most of his
life in Leesville. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force; was a self-employed truck driver, metal fabricator, pipe fitter and ship fitter. He loved horses and was a member of Lilly Pentecostal Church in Cottonwood Community.
He
was preceded in death by his first two wives, Marion and Mary B.; son, Robert “Bobby” Smith; parents, Bart and Minnie Smith; three brothers and seven sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Young Smith of Leesville; son, Richard
“Ricky” Smith (wife, Carol) of Princeton, Ala.; three step-sons, William “Billy” Meaux (wife, Laura) of Leesville, Gary Young (wife, Susan) of Merryville and Patrick Young (wife, June) of Merryville; daughter, Sherry Smith of Vidor, Texas;
daughter-in-law, Betty Smith of Vidor, Texas; four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
