LOU WHITLEY

Lou Whitley, 81, of Anacoco, died on Saturday, February 5, 2010 of
natural causes after a brief hospital stay in Leesville.
Mrs. Whitley was born on November 19, 1928 in Anacoco to John Roderick (J.R.) and Julia Bush Brown. Lou was the youngest of five siblings in the Brown family and grew up on the
family farm in Anacoco. She graduated from Orange High School and married her high school sweetheart, Arthur B. (A.B.) Whitley shortly after Mr. Whitley returned home from World War II.
Lou worked at Fort Polk as a supply clerk and
retired from the federal civil service after 34 years of employment in November of 1993. She was a dedicated and loving wife and mother who worked hard to put both her children (Craig and Pam) through college. She enjoyed knitting, cooking and
spending time with her family. She will be missed and loved by her family forever.
Mrs. Whitley was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church of Leesville.
Lou is survived by her husband of 62 years, Arthur
B. Whitley, her son, Stephen “Craig” Whitley and his wife Jonette Whitley of Houston, Texas; her daughter, Pamela Gayle Davis and husband Bruce Davis of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren, Amanda Davis Land and husband Wes Land, Courtney Davis Burton
and husband Ben Burton, Scott Whitley, John Whitley and wife Brenda, Marina Whitley and Katia Whitley; three great-grandchildren Alexia Whitley, Malynn Land and Chole Beth Burton; one sister-in-law, Clarice Rector and husband Jerome, and numerous
nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John R. and Julia Brown; sisters, Laura Spearing, Oza Leonard West and Tincy Miller; and brother, Austin Brown.
Visitation will
be held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, and from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 10 at Hixson Funeral Home in Leesville. A Christian wake service will be held in the Hixson chapel on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The funeral, a Catholic Mass of
Christian Burial, will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10, and be held at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Leesville, with Father Kenneth Michiels officiating.
Interment will take place immediately following the
service at Mitchell Cemetery in Anacoco. Pallbearers will be L.J. Langlois, Randall Bryan, Sam Craft, Mike Tilley, Willie Deon and Bobby Bordelon. Honorary pallbearers will be J.R. Furlow, Hunter Clark and Charlie Draughn.
The family
