Funeral services for William Douglas “Doug” Poe, 72, of Leesville will be held on Tuesday, December 1,
2009 at noon at the First Baptist Church of Leesville with Dr. Jerry Penfield, Rev. Craig Forge and Rev. Joe Wellman officiating. Burial will follow in the Castor Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of
Leesville.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. at Hixson and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
Mr. Poe passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2009 in Alexandria
at 12:15 p.m. He was a life resident of the Leesville area and was in the first graduating class of Hicks High School. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and had worked for Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville for 33 years of serving others. He
served as a Deacon of First Baptist Church of Leesville and Castor Baptist Church. He was a past president of the Wagon Wheel Riding Club, Trail Boss for 36 years throughout Vernon Parish. He loved rodeoing and especially working with children. He
had served as a Little League Baseball Coach and was known as “Pop” in the Rodeo Circuit.
Mr. Poe was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Coral Poe
Survivors are his wife of 50 yrs, Loretta Martin Poe of
Leesville; two sons and daughter in-law, Dwayne Poe and wife Melanie of Provencal and Wayburn Danny Poe of Leesville; one sister, Geraldine Williamson and husband James of Leesville; one brother, Jerry and wife Brenda Poe of Leesville; four
grandchildren, Codie Poe, Haley Procell and husband Aaron, Lacey Crow and Justin Martin and wife Whitney.
Pallbearers will be Dwayne Poe, Danny Poe, Codie Poe, Justin Martin, Richard Ross, Malcolm Prewitt, Donnie Perkins and J.L.
Busby. Honary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church of Leesville.
Mr. Poe’s family sends a special Thank You to Dr. Wold and his Staff at the Oncology Clinic and the Oncology Floor of Rapides Medical
Center.
