Leona Marie Tovery, 90, died October 23, 2009 in Alexandria. Burial services are under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home. Visitation will be today, October 25, 2009 at 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the Chapel of Hixson Funeral Home of
Leesville and Monday at the funeral home beginning at 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Hixson Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, October 26, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. with Father Kenneth Michiels
officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery in Anacoco.
Pallbearers will be chosen from the Knights of Columbus.
Mrs. Tovery was a native of Sorrento and a resident of Anacoco. She was a Veteran of the U.S.
Army having served during WWII. Leona was a lifetime member of both the Disabled American Veterans Association and the American Legion. She worked at Fort Polk for 26 years.
She is survived by her cousin and Godchild, Robert DeBate
and wife Madeline; sisters-in-law, Mary Helen Tovery Poleman and Dimple Tovery Sanders; special friends, Betty Summitt, Fannie Wells and Kimberly Mattox. Leona also had a host of friends and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Thomas Joy Tovery and parents, Clement Melancon, Jr. and Lucille Dupuy.
