Funeral services for O.G. “Buddy” Johnson, 90, of Evans will be held Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Oak Grove Congregational Methodist Church in Burr Ferry, with Rev. Melvin Smith and Rev. George Jeane officiating. Burial
will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery in Evans. Friends may visit Friday, October 16 from 1 p.m. until service time in the church on Saturday. Services are under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville.
Buddy,
the son of Horace and Carrie Allen Johnson was born December 3, 1918 in Niceville, Fla. He passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at the West Wood Manor Nursing Home in DeRidder. He served in the Merchant Marines, then worked as a Tug Boat
Captain for forty plus years. He was a member of the Oak Grove Congregational Methodist Church and a member of the Masonic Melrose Lodge 1294 in Houston, Texas, where he was due his fifty year pen. He loved to hunt, fish and garden.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Peppard; grandson Charles Ray Peppard and three siblings.
He is survived by his wife of seventy years Alma Smith Johnson of Evans; son, Johnnie R. (wife, Donna) of
Spring, Texas; daughter Joan (husband, Don) Carroll of Spring, Texas; five grandchildren, Tracie Peppard, Kimberly Hayes, Christopher Johnson, Karen Johnson and John David Johnson; and three grandchildren Kylie Hayes, Hunter Hayes and Lorien
Johnson.
