James Leroy Merritt, Sr.

Funeral
services will be held for James Leroy Merritt, Sr., 79, will be held on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2 p.m. at Hixson Funeral Chapel in Leesville. Minister officiating will be the Rev. Les Comeaux. Burial will follow at Leesville Cemetery under the direction
on Hixson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Hixson Funeral Home, 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.. and the day of the service beginning at 8 a.m. until service time.

Mr. Merritt passed from this life
on Monday, Aug. 10, in Leesville. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War where he later retired. James was the sales manager for Fontenot Chevrolet of Leesville for 23 years, owner of Merritt Lawn
service and he was a member of First Baptist Church of New Llano. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and was a Mason of Pickering Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mildred Rich Merritt; 3
daughters, Terry Quackenbush, Linda Stewart and husband Randy, all of Hornbeck; Debbie Rodgers and husband Michael of Anacoco; 1 daughter-in-law, Peggy Merritt of Leesville; 1 sister, Peggy Merritt Trammell of New Iberia, with 2 other sisters;
numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces & nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Hattie Murray Merritt and John Merritt; 1 son, Jim Merritt, Jr; 1 brother, John Henry
Merritt, Jr.; 1 Grandson, J. W. Merritt and 1 granddaughter, Teresa Ellen Bradford. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfh.com.
