Funeral services for Katherine W. “Kate” Rice, 92, of DeRidder will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 20, 2009 at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Jude Brunnert officiating. Friends may visit from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on
Thursday, March 19 at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Services are under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Mrs. Rice passed away on Friday, March 13, 2009 at
Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder. She loved to sew, paint, read and travel. She was a retired member of the Typographical Union. She was a former member of the Our Lady of Victoria Catholic Church in Jersey City, NJ.
She was
preceded in death by her husband William Rice; her parents Lee and Katie Word; brothers James Word, Theron Word and Prentice Word.
Kate is survived by sons, William “Bill” and wife Glafira Rice of Evergreen, Texas, David Rice of
Manahawkin, N.J. and Tim and wife Donna Rice of DeRidder; daughters Patricia Berndt of Manahawkin, N.J., Eileen Winters and husband Jim of Jackson, N. J. and Ann and husband Ed Hayes of Holly Springs, N.C. ; seventeen grandchildren; and twenty-seven
great grandchildren.
